The Asus Chromebox 3 sports the latest Intel processor and USB Type-C

  • Asus announced the Chromebox 3, the follow-up to 2015’s Chromebox 2
  • The Chromebox 3 features the latest Intel Core processor and an unknown amount of RAM
  • The Chromebox 3 will be available sometime during the second half of 2018
  • Price has yet to be announced

Following HP and Acer announcing their Chrome OS-powered wares in time for this year’s CES, Asus has unveiled its own Chrome OS machine, the Chromebox 3.

The Chromebox 3 is an unassuming piece of kit, with a design reminiscent of previous incarnations. The front makes room for a headphone jack, two regular USB ports, and a microSD card slot. The back sports USB Type-C, Gigabit LAN, DisplayPort, and HDMI ports. Along with 802.11ac Wi-Fi, the Chromebox 3 doesn’t lack connection options.

Under the hood is an eighth-generation Intel Core processor with DDR4-2400 memory. We have no idea what the processor and RAM amount will be, though we’ll likely learn more as we get closer to launch.

Editor’s Pick

As you’d probably expect, the Chromebox 3 runs Chrome OS. Because of that, it will have Google Play support out of the box, a nifty feature for the business customers to whom the machine is aimed.

We also don’t know how much Asus will charge for the Chromebox 3, though the company said it will be available sometime during the second half of 2018. We’ll provide more information as we get it.
