Snap reportedly working on ‘Stories Everywhere’ to share content beyond Snapchat

  • Snap reportedly working on a feature called Stories Everywhere
  • Stories Everywhere would make Snapchat Stories available outside the app
  • The idea is to improve stagnating user growth and possibly improve revenue

There’s no denying that Snapchat is one of the more popular apps out there, but its user growth has somewhat stagnated in recent times. Hoping to improve that stagnation, Snap is reportedly developing something called “Stories Everywhere.”

Originally reported by Cheddar, Stories Everywhere reportedly allows Snap to make Snapchat Stories available across the internet, not just within the app. According to the report, the feature is still in its early stages, though Snap brought on former News Corp senior vice president and global head of video Rahul Chopra to head the project.

As such, it is now Chopra’s job to determine how Snapchat’s content gets distributed across the web, as well as how to make people further engage with Snapchat. That’s a tall order, but the endgame is clear: make the content as accessible as possible and prompt people to sign up for and download the Snapchat app onto their devices.

Cheddar also reports that Snap considered letting other apps access its feeds of user-generated videos. Such a strategy would allow Snap to make some money off content licensing, and money is something the company would like to have at this point.

Editor’s Pick

Tying all of these strategies together is Snap’s stagnated user base and declining revenue, which led to Snap having a memorable third quarter for all the wrong reasons. More specifically, even though the company brought in $207 million in revenue, it lost $443 million for the quarter.

Making matters a bit stickier, Snapchat’s downloads and public mentions have been on a steady decline since Snap went public back in March. The company has since started paying its top creators for the stuff they make, but it’s clear that Snap wants to try and turn things around.

Part of that turnaround involves a redesigned Snapchat app that drastically changes how it looks and functions. It would definitely help if Snap actually starts caring about the Android app — even Snap’s CEO said the company needs to accelerate the adoption rate of Android users — but features like Stories Everywhere can certainly help turn things around.
